Welcome to the Land Academy Show, entertaining land investment talk. I’m Steven Jack Butala.

And I’m Jill DeWit broadcasting from the valley of the Sun.

Today’s Jill Friday. And she’s going to talk about how your goals are your goals alone.

Jill K DeWit:
Yes, they are.

Steven Jack Butala:
What does that really mean?

Jill K DeWit:
It’s not 2022. What are your goals? Let’s all talk about it. Let’s set some goals together, shall we folks? No, it’s not that. No, it means that, with us, we have very different goals. I’ll share something, like your goals, you have financial goals that are very different than my financial goals, and I support you in your financial goals. I have been happy and done and at the level I wanted to be as of a couple years ago and…

Steven Jack Butala:
Really?

Jill K DeWit:
Yeah, two houses ago.

Steven Jack Butala:
I didn’t know that, Jill.

Jill K DeWit:
Two houses ago, I thought, “We’ve arrived.” It was the greatest thing. And I was just so happy and it was a sweet little house, very little house, but it was just, in the location and the right neighbors. And we didn’t have to sweat anymore. I think it was just getting over that hurdle is what it was for me. That’s what I thought. I just needed to sleep well and not worry about things. But you have different goals and I’m happy to support you and continue down this path and keep up. And so we together now we up our goals kind of thing. You’re like, “I think we can do X. What do you think?” I’m like, “Yep. I’m in.” I always going to say yep, but it’s just interesting that even we have different things that we want. And we’ll talk about that.

Steven Jack Butala:

John wrote, “I just got a letter from a guy who does custom lists. Is this a good or a bad source of data?” It’s funny, I had this happen to me too recently. I got a mailer from a random person in Florida and it was really like, “Whatever you need, I can get it for you kind of thing.” And they listed all these different examples on here. And I’m like, “How do I know this guy’s good. And how do I know where he gets his information from? And I wish you hadn’t have done this.” He’s like, “This is great for all kinds of lines of businesses, including MLM.” I’m like, “Oh, it’s like.” MLM to me just gives me such a bad feeling.

Steven Jack Butala:
I wonder if you received this question or inquiry on a fax machine, because that’s how old this concept is.

Jill K DeWit:
Right.

Steven Jack Butala:
Somebody like me or anybody out there more and more, there’s tons of people that can pull data. Just like we all do.

Jill K DeWit:
Mm hmm (affirmative).

Steven Jack Butala:
All the time off a data tree or wherever put together a custom list and send it to you. The hell is that.

Jill K DeWit:
Right.

Steven Jack Butala:
That’s ridiculous. That is the old… That’s like 1993.

Jill K DeWit:
How do I know the guys pulling what I want to pull.

Steven Jack Butala:
Yeah.

Jill K DeWit:
That makes me think of too. Remember we used to go back, this used to be the way before we figured out all the other great places that aggregated, but you go to the county and you could go to the county and say, “I need to get a list of all this and this.”-

Steven Jack Butala:
Tax role.

Jill K DeWit:
And you’re trusting that this person cares and they sit down and spend the time-

Steven Jack Butala:
And that they know about computers-

Jill K DeWit:
And they download it and give it to you in the right-

Steven Jack Butala:
It’s silly.

Jill K DeWit:
It’s not going to be in the right format no matter what, but they really put in your criteria and they gave you all the stuff. Usually it seems like in those situations, back in the day, if you ask for five columns, they give you only five columns because that’s all you ask for-

Steven Jack Butala:
And you’re about to spend-

Jill K DeWit:
I don’t want just five columns. I’m want all 185.

Steven Jack Butala:
Then they send you the data and let’s say, it’s okay. Now you’re spending thousands of dollars to get a mailer out, to find out the data’s not any good. There’s 15 things wrong with this.

Jill K DeWit:
Right.

Steven Jack Butala:
The word lists shouldn’t exist anymore.

Jill K DeWit:
Right.

Steven Jack Butala:
You want to extract data from a database because it’s… We care because this is important. And if you don’t want to have any part of any of this, just call concierge data and put your order in. And then you know, it’s land academy driven and it’s fresh. And it’s the same stuff we use.

Jill K DeWit:
Do you remember back in the day, I had a blog on our website that I wrote and had a guy behind a van, like, “Hey buddy, want to buy a list?”

Steven Jack Butala:
Yeah. That’s what it’s like.

Jill K DeWit:
It’s like a drug deal’s going on back there. “I got a list for you.” Yeah, don’t do that.

Steven Jack Butala:
Now, if somebody came to me and said, “I’ve got a list of all the property that is owned by farmers in Saskatchewan, Canada.” I might return that call because getting data is impossible.

Jill K DeWit:
From a-

Steven Jack Butala:
In a format that we need in other countries.

Jill K DeWit:
Right.

Steven Jack Butala:
I would dig into that and find out what’s going on.

Jill K DeWit:
I understand.

Steven Jack Butala:
Today’s Jill Friday. She’s going to talk about how your goals are your goals alone. This is the meat of the show.

Jill K DeWit:
Week one career path, we are on career path three, but every week or every career path, we start the week off with, or the session off with, getting to know you, getting to know the people in the room and getting to know what their goals are. And it’s so interesting. The variance of goals, we have everything from, I just want a few thousand dollars a month to, I want a few hundred thousand dollars a month to, I just want some time back. I have little kids. I want to be there for these little kids and I don’t want to worry. And be hiding out in my garage working 24/7 just to pay the bills. It’s fun for us because everyone has their own unique things yet we’re all in the same room. You would think that, well, shoot, if you just need time and you only care about $3,000 a month you should be over here.

Jill K DeWit:
But you could care less about time. You want $300,000 a month. You should be over here. We should all be in the same room because your goals are yours. And by surrounding yourself with other people who are motivated like you, whatever it is they’re trying to accomplish you benefit, you really do help each other. That’s kind of my main point today. And I want to talk to you, see what you want to add, but it’s just, it’s easy to say, “Oh, there’re ahead of me. Ah, shoot I shouldn’t be here.” People, we do that to ourselves. I don’t know why, but we’re like, and especially when people talk about big numbers, this is funny too. They’re like, “Ooh, I’m in the wrong crowd. These guys are talking about taking down deals where you buy it for 150 and sell it for a 500,000.

Jill K DeWit:
I don’t have that money. I’m never going to… That’s not what I’m going to do. Hold on a moment, you’re going to get something out of this. I promise you, I get something out of it when I talk to people. How do you think we learn about other states and other areas and other niches as a group, because you know someone doing it, you hear about someone doing it. I troll clubhouse and I’m in rooms that I know nothing about real estate construction, not kidding, like building foundations. And I learned something and I’m like, I take stuff away from it. I’m probably never going to use it, but there’s applications of how they do business and how scrappy they are. And the level, what they’re working on that it’s knowledge. What do you think?

Steven Jack Butala:
This is Jill Friday?

Jill K DeWit:
It’s funny. He knows this. Because I came back and I said, did you know, there’s 3D printing for cement that runs overnight and they’re doing it here in Phoenix. He’s like, “What are you talking about?” I’m like, and it was the whole room was like, “What are you talking about?” This woman dropped this bomb at the end. She owns a construction company. I think she’s in Dallas. I’m sitting in her clubhouse room, just kind of… This is one of those things that I do. I kind of half, listen, I just kind of have my earbud in and I’m working.

Jill K DeWit:
I’m just kind of like, “Oh, wonder what these guys are all talking about.” Nothing we do, not about data, not about buying, not about selling it’s about building. And I’m just like, “Wow, I kind of want to go down and check this out.” There might be some plan there too. You never want to discount what you might be into someday and having that extra foundation, or just even knowing who your buyers are and knowing what they’re doing with it. There’s so much to be gained from being in these rooms and being involved with people with goals that are so different from you. Higher or lower.

Steven Jack Butala:
Look, we all know fortunes are made buying and selling real estate, or just in real estate in general. There are dramatic improvements on how to do that. Jill just mentioned one. How to do that all the time. Now they change as fast as the internet does. And that used to not be the case for probably a 1,000 years. It was the same model, buy a place or get control of a place and rent it out. That’s just not the case anymore. I mean, 3D printing a house. If you go on YouTube is a thing. It’s a thing where it’s not highly regulated. Everything’s overly regulated in this country. And we live in a great time where all these new things come out and a lot of it’s just not regulated, because there’s just no regs for 3D printed house in a lot of places.

Steven Jack Butala:
It’s great. It’s a massive opportunity for us because we already know the basic stuff. We already know we buy a low sell high. All of it, stay organized. Whatever your goals are, if you put yourself in a strange environment and your goals might change. If you put yourself next to some people that make 10 times as much money that is what’s goes on in the career path. Every single time we’ve got people coming in that are making a few hundred thousand dollars a year and they’re there and they don’t know how to get out of that, whatever habits they have formed. And in the end you’re sitting in a room full of 15 rich people, us included and saying, “Oh, that’s how you do it.” I’ve watched… I used to play when the kids are little, I used to play video games with them and you’d go through all these campaigns specifically with the first person shooters.

Steven Jack Butala:
And we would always get stuck somewhere. And the first thing the kids would do was go on YouTube and find out from other people who were better at playing games than them, how to get past this little thing. And they would all have the same reaction when they watched the video, “Oh, that’s how you get it. That’s how you do it.” And we’d get back on and we’d get through it. You’d go hide over here behind this crate and do this thing and this thing and count to 20 and it all passes and you get by. And it’s the same thing in real estate. It’s like, “Oh this is how you add two zeros to the stuff the I’ve been doing already.”

Jill K DeWit:
It was my-

Steven Jack Butala:
Your goals-

Jill K DeWit:
Go ahead. I’m sorry.

Steven Jack Butala:
Are your goals alone. The person that’s sitting next to you might need to make 20 million to fulfill their goals. But your goal might be to get from 500,000 to 2 million. But now in the back of your head, you have somebody’s cell phone number on how to do it to get to 20 million. This is what career path is. And this is what the value of surrounding yourself with people, which is what land academy is and discord and all the stuff that we provide surrounding yourself with like kind people.

Jill K DeWit:
Exactly. Well, yeah. And what’s great too about is when you sit in these environments and you’re exposed to what’s possible, your goals might change when you go, “whoa, I guess I do have it in me. I didn’t know that.”

Steven Jack Butala:
“Oh, it’s that easy.”

Jill K DeWit:
I know how to build a team. “Okay. Wait, I’m really good at that.” And the other thing too, by the way, you might find a partner. That’s for me, that’s one of the best ways to get there faster. The fastest is really when you find someone with you that you have, you think the same, you have the same goals, but you have different talents and you align yourself together, hold onto your hat.

Steven Jack Butala:
Yeah.

Jill K DeWit:
Like us, that’s possible.

Steven Jack Butala:
The single best thing it can possibly for me, my personality type was to get a partner and expose because your partner might even know… In Jill’s case, she didn’t know what was possible. I’ll just be… It’s true time. This is true time. Jill did not know what was possible. And when we got together, first we got together socially. And then from a business standpoint, she’s looking around going, “This is all you have to do to make seven digits a year.”

Jill K DeWit:
Yeah.

Steven Jack Butala:
Remember?

Jill K DeWit:
I said, “All right, I’m in.”

Steven Jack Butala:
She said something like I’ve been doing this anyway.

Jill K DeWit:
Yeah.

Steven Jack Butala:
This is exactly what I do in my regular job and I don’t make seven digits.

Jill K DeWit:
