Steven Butala: Steve and Jill here.
Jill DeWit: Hi.
Steven Butala: Welcome to the Land Academy show ,entertaining land investment talk. I’m Steven Jack Butala.
Jill DeWit: And I’m Jill Dewitt broadcasting from sunny southern California.
Steven Butala: Today Jill and I talk about the value of our weekly webinars.
Jill DeWit: Oh my gosh. I have a lot to say about this. Our members have a lot to say about this. We have some people that are like… We get a lot showing up on these calls. I mean, it’s very common to have over 75 people on these calls every week. And they are, they’re faithful and they’re there-
Steven Butala: and they’re doing deals.
Jill DeWit: I know. And there’s really something to be said for being… It’s like having a meeting with your peers every week. It really gets you going, gets you motivated. That’s one of my things. So we’ll talk more.
Steven Butala: Yeah. I have two major points to.
Jill DeWit: Okay.
Steven Butala: I’ll just give you a heads up. Number one is this really is what separates us from everybody else in this space.
Jill DeWit: True.
Steven Butala: And number two is that we can’t fake it. We know what we’re talking about.
Jill DeWit: It’s true.
Steven Butala: You can’t fake this stuff, the answers. And if we don’t have the answers and we don’t sometimes, somebody else in the call does from the advanced groups. Like, “Oh yeah, I just went through that. This is what you do.”
Jill DeWit: Exactly.
Steven Butala: We’re actually buying selling real estate, a lot of us, in this group and I think that’s what separates us.
Jill DeWit: I agree.
Steven Butala: Before we get into it, let’s take a question posted by one of our members on the landinvestors.com online community. It’s free.
Jill DeWit: Jeff asks, “I’ve been adding different land investor tools on Google sheets and now it has three worksheets. One detailed ROI calculator and footage per acre calculator, Two, comp calculator, which is a basic way to get the averages and do the data entry. Three, payment comparison allows you to see and compare up to three different seller financing terms. Here’s the link.” How nice is that?
Steven Butala: Yeah.
Jill DeWit: Wow.
Steven Butala: I haven’t checked the quality on it, but that’s my point. Actually, I put this in here and so if you want the link and you want to go check this out, it’s on a Google sheet. Everybody can see it.
Jill DeWit: Wow.
Steven Butala: Check it out on Land Investors, just keyword search this.
Jill DeWit: Talk about the value of our group.
Steven Butala: That’s why I put it in there.
Jill DeWit: Holy Cow. Jeff, that was really nice to share that with everybody. See, and that’s the thing, that’s tied into this whole thing.
Steven Butala: Yeah, that’s why I did it.
Jill DeWit: Thank you. I mean, that’s the value of our calls and you just said, “You want to get to the meat of the show and then I’ll start talking?” I’ll keep talking. Sorry.
Steven Butala: No, why don’t you say it today? T
Jill DeWit: Today’s topic, the value of our weekly member call, member webinars, excuse me. It’s a member call slash webinar every Thursday. This is the meat of the show.
Steven Butala: Before Jill gets started, I should say we do three of these, three on Thursday, our shows. The third one’s usually an hour and a half. The first one is the advanced group land call. There’s about 18 or 20 of us and we all sit around and and concoct schemes about how to make money with each other.
Jill DeWit: Hand selected, invite only.
Steven Butala: Yeah, the second one is a House Academy show and that just couldn’t be going better because the people that are doing deals ask Jill and I, sometimes Jill’s there, sometimes not. They ask me to say, “Hey, would you do this deal?” So we go, right on the screen, on Zoom, and we say, “Look, this is what’s great about this. This is what you need. It passes all the financial tests. Yeah, I would take this to the next level, actually get an inspection.” Or, “No, it’s too close to a freeway. These are not the kind of deals that you want to do,” or whatever.
Steven Butala: Last week we had one that there was a lease, a two year lease in place. Which initially I said, “Wow, that’s not good because you can’t resell it.” But then I started looking at it and I’m like, this lease rates fantastic. And it itself could sell the property, make the property more sellable with the tenants in place. So it’s those kinds of things that we really heavily get into. If you’re flipping houses or thinking about flipping houses, there’s no better place to do this than House Academy.
Jill DeWit: It’s true.
Steven Butala: Especially with these calls.
Jill DeWit: True. So these calls, so Steven just explained the three calls and they’re usually an hour each. But then the last one is our land academy member call. We could traditionally go an hour and a half. We pushed two hours before because even though it’s every week, everybody has so many good questions. We really want to be here and answer your questions. And like you said, I don’t know anybody that does this, certainly not the level that we do and it’s included with everything that we do. And it’s really us every week here are helping and solving problems, answering questions.
Jill DeWit: And I see a couple of things come out of it. So number one, motivation. I remember before we started doing our annual live events, some of our members were saying, “I felt like I was all alone out here.” And these weekly calls, people get to know each other, they can communicate. I see side chatter. I see people helping each other. It happens all the time. Someone will say… Well a couple of weeks ago, one of our members said, “Hey, look we’re showing your property, trying to get a photographer.” One of the other guys says, “You know what? That’s 20 minutes from my house. I’ll drive over there.”
Steven Butala: Perfect example.
Jill DeWit: And he did, he drove over there and took pictures of it for her.
Steven Butala: Those guys did the deal.
Jill DeWit: It was so cool. It was really nice. So we helped him out, it was great. And there’s all kinds of little things like that that come out of it. Hey, I got a drone guy. Here you go. Or Hey, here’s the attorney you need. I’ve already got it all figured out, call this guy. It’s constant, things like that. Even little things like, us or other members saying, “Hey, don’t worry about it, I’ll fund that deal.” Things that come up.
Jill DeWit: But motivation though, just checking in and knowing you’re not alone and talking to the people that are going through the exact same things you are or they’re a month ahead of you and you know what [inaudible 00:05:41] back to their month behind you and you can help that person. It’s awesome. The second thing is, sharing those member experiences like I was just saying. Getting to share, “I just did a quiet title, here’s how it. Wow, I can’t believe it.” And, and everybody benefits from that. So things like that come up all the time.
Jill DeWit: Would you do this deal, like Steven just said. Whole time that people can put in the state and the county and the APN and we’ll look them up right on the screen. And we will really say… And it’s funny because sometimes we have different answers. Steven will go… he’ll do it and I wouldn’t or I’ll say I would and he wouldn’t. And we all talk about it cause there’s no right or… nobody’s right or wrong, Just what do you…. Someone might see something and it’s fun to talk about.
Jill DeWit: And then the last thing, it’s really a giant Q&A, bring it, we are there. When we originally started these calls, we started to come up with topics and, and make them like a formal presentation kind of thing, but the Q&A took over. So now it’s just fun. Anything that’s going on with your deals, your deals or your company or questions about the program, we’re there and it’s, again, you and I live, ready to answer them.
Steven Butala: I mean I learn stuff on these webinars.
Jill DeWit: That’s true.
Steven Butala: Seriously.
Jill DeWit: That’s true.
Steven Butala: So there was a time when we stopped doing it.
Jill DeWit: We did.
Steven Butala: I mean if you go back in the archives, we’ve been doing this since the middle of 2015 every single week. And now multiple episodes.
Jill DeWit: There’s hundreds of them.
Steven Butala: I mean hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hours of information and questions received. And as a member, you have access… immediately have an access to all of that stuff.
Jill DeWit: Yeah, the recorded.
Steven Butala: It’s huge.
Jill DeWit: It is.
Steven Butala: Really, like I said earlier, it really separates us from anybody else that’s doing this.
Jill DeWit: Well it’s just helpful, flat out helpful. I mean where else can you get that hour every week. For a while, I will admit, I tried to make it a monthly thing because I’m like, “We’ve got so much on our plates, we got to do this monthly.”
Steven Butala: Jill and I are in a constant discussion, I’m going to call it a discussion, but it’s closer to a battle, about how much time it takes to produce these podcasts. And these webinars, I mean we finally have a producer now and so we’re getting another cohost for… This is the truth, for the House Academy show, because Jill just can’t do it anymore.
Jill DeWit: I’ve got so much on my plate right now, but at the end of the day, what always wins is what our members need and that’s what’s going to win.
Steven Butala: Exactly.
Jill DeWit: And it’s funny. So I’ve had people say to me, “I don’t know how you’re doing this, you guys are doing a lot.” I’m like, Right? Thank you. Gosh, thank you for noticing because I’m tired too.” Tired thinking about it. But [inaudible 00:08:49], it’s what we’re all about.
Steven Butala: Oh, the other thing too is, I forgot, I kind of spaced out while Jill was just for a minute. If you’d like to be a guest on our call, a guest on one of these calls, we do that every week, there’s two or three people that reach out to our staff and say, “You know what? I’ve been thinking about doing this. I’d love to be a guest on that land caller or the house call. What’s the best way to contact Aaron?”
Jill DeWit: Just send an email supportatlantacammie.com and say, “Hey, I wanna be a fly on the wall and get in one of these member calls this week.” And they’ll get you an invite.
Steven Butala: Yep.
Jill DeWit: Yeah, because they’re closed, they’re closed. We tried that for a little bit too, we made them public. No, it was not good. We locked them back up because you know why? because we’re really sharing some good, sometimes personal stuff about deals and it’s weird. We want to keep it with our groups. Everybody’s comfortable sharing their numbers, talking about properties. We have a really strong, tight, trustworthy community.
Steven Butala: Hey, we know your time’s valuable. Thanks for spending some of it with us today, anyway. Join us next time for the episode called member Nick Slagger shares his House Academy and Land Academy success stories.
Jill DeWit: And we answer your questions posted on our online community, found at landinvestors.com, it is free.
Steven Butala: You are not alone in your real estate ambition.
Jill DeWit: I like those calls.
Steven Butala: In the back of my head, I never want to do these episodes where it sounds like a sales pitch.
Jill DeWit: True.
Steven Butala: And so that’s not what this is. There’s just huge, huge value.
Jill DeWit: It’s just letting everybody know what’s possible, what’s available, and we’re here to help him, yeah. Thank you.
