Welcome to the Land Academy Show. Entertaining land investment talk. I’m Steven Jack Butala.

And I’m Jill DeWit, broadcasting from the Valley of the Sun.

Today, Jill and I talk about how much there’s just so much land investing success being reported on our little discord community for Land Academy. Before we really, you can get a peak at it. Before we get into it, let’s take a question posted by one of our members on the landinvestors.com online community. It’s free. And I hope by now, you know that Jill and I have a full blown operational commercial printing company called Offers2owners.com. We only send out offers to owners to buy real estate, whether it’s houses or land or whatever. We don’t print catalogs. We don’t take on any type of orders in any way for any of that stuff. And it’s very successful. We send out between half a million and 8 or 900,000 letters for customers every month.

Jill K DeWit:
Steve H wrote, I was waiting for this-

Steven Jack Butala:

Jill K DeWit:
Yep, was waiting for it to catch up with me. I didn’t have a brain fart or whatever that is.

Steven Jack Butala:
What?

Jill K DeWit:
I don’t know. Like people say you’re brain freezes. They say that, so, okay. So, this is obviously something I figured was going to tie into today’s show. So Steve H wrote, I just broke a million bucks in partnership. I’m guessing partnerships deals.

Steven Jack Butala:
Steve H is a funder.

Jill K DeWit:
Yeah.

Steven Jack Butala:
He doesn’t send his own mailers out. He’s been in our group for about a year.

Jill K DeWit:
Yep. [inaudible 00:02:00].

Steven Jack Butala:
Real actively discord. And he’s just recently broke a million bucks. He’s placed a million dollars of his own money.

Jill K DeWit:
Yep.

Steven Jack Butala:
For other people to-

Jill K DeWit:
Get their deals funded.

Steven Jack Butala:
Yeah.

Jill K DeWit:
That’s what people don’t realize. There’s a healthy group of folks like Steve in our community that are not here to do it, to send their own mail and answer their own phone and get their own deals up.

Steven Jack Butala:
Yeah.

Jill K DeWit:
They’re here to fund people’s deals and make money.

Steven Jack Butala:
But it’s all in discord.

Jill K DeWit:
Well, the value too for him is he knows how smart these people are. He’s here for a reason. He could be out on the street funding other people’s deals, but he doesn’t know what they know. He doesn’t know what the background is, where they were trained, how they found the deal, the mechanics, all of that, which is so valuable. I too-

Steven Jack Butala:
Let me get this out of the way.

Jill K DeWit:
Oh.

Steven Jack Butala:
Today’s topic, so much land investing success on discord. This is why you’re listening. Go ahead.

Jill K DeWit:
Is that just killing you? Just killing you.

Steven Jack Butala:
Because I have a lot to say too.

Jill K DeWit:
Okay. No, I was just going to say though, and I do that too. I have to tell you, I do fund other people’s deals, but it’s not that often because you know what? Most of the other people’s deals that are not Land Academy members that make it to me, there’s problems. They bought them wrong. There’s an agent involved. They don’t know what they’re doing. I’m just like, “Nope, nope, nope, nope and nope.”

Steven Jack Butala:
We have a disproportionate number of people in our group who have other companies. And Steve’s one of them. He owns a fairly substantial collections company, as I know it. So he has the luxury of as do many, many members in our group of having this cash machine over here that he owns. And now, he’s taking that money and placing it in the real estate market via Land Academy.

Jill K DeWit:
Yeah.

Steven Jack Butala:
So I’m not selling anything here today. I’m not. But if you own other companies and you’ve been thinking about joining Land Academy, because you’ve got this money over that you want to place from another company.

Jill K DeWit:
You’re not nuts.

Steven Jack Butala:
There’s no better place.

Jill K DeWit:
Yeah.

Steven Jack Butala:
To double and triple your money. We don’t think in terms of return on investment anymore. If we do regular mailers, it’s not uncommon for us to get a hundred to 200 to 400% return on investment.

Jill K DeWit:
Right.

Steven Jack Butala:
Meaning we buy it for 30 and sell it for 130.

Jill K DeWit:
Right.

Steven Jack Butala:
It’s a very typical occurrence. It’s not an exception. We’re not trying to get 11% on the stock market a year.

Jill K DeWit:
Right. Back to success on discord.

Steven Jack Butala:
Yeah.

Jill K DeWit:
Tell us what … Well, I know what sparked this, but do you have some stories and some things that just come to mind?

Steven Jack Butala:
Every day somebody reports in there, “Hey, I just bought a property for 30,000 bucks. Listed it. It’s been for sale for 20 minutes and sold it for 130.”

Jill K DeWit:
Yeah.

Steven Jack Butala:
Every day there’s somebody reporting something like that.

Jill K DeWit:
Yeah.

Steven Jack Butala:
And it’s not all peaches and cream. There’s stories in there that discord is a peer review group in its finest situation. So if you’re stuck, there’s all kinds of questions. Minute by minute, people are asking, look, there’s people in there that were where you are six months ago. There’s people in there are where you were six years ago. And so we all can say … It’s packed full of comments like, “Oh yeah, I remember that.”

Jill K DeWit:
And here’s how I got out of it. Yep. Exactly.

Steven Jack Butala:
So again, and it sounds like I’m selling something today here. And that’s really not my point. I’m proud.

Jill K DeWit:
Yeah.

Steven Jack Butala:
I’m also really proud of my tech staff could embed that discord environment into land investors so that people who are not in our group in Land Academy can see what happens [crosstalk 00:05:34] in real time. It’s truly amazing. I have it on my phone. I’m very, very active in the group personally. And Jill, not so much, but I don’t know. We just gravitate toward different stuff. And so I’m constantly in there congratulating people and helping, and we’ve got moderators in there. Several moderators, Kevin Farrell and Lori Phillips are very active answering questions.

Jill K DeWit:
Exactly. I love it. So you don’t have any one that just jumped out at you today?

Steven Jack Butala:
Well, Steve’s million dollar placement and there are people in there doing multimillion dollar deals that are getting them funded.

Jill K DeWit:
That’s true too. That’s the thing, it’s not just what’s goes on in discord is not just the success stories or people looking for money or getting money. It’s all the day to day like, “Oh no, I just ran across this situation. What do you all think? Do I do this? Do I not do this?”

Steven Jack Butala:
You know, if you’re a Jill-

Jill K DeWit:
Have you ever had a broker say this? How did you get out? How do I handle it?

Steven Jack Butala:
If you’re a Jill, you can find a Jack and vice versa.

Jill K DeWit:
Sure.

Steven Jack Butala:
There’s partnerships in there that happen all the time.

Jill K DeWit:
It’s true.

Steven Jack Butala:
It’s like the next best thing to a live event.

Jill K DeWit:
True.

Steven Jack Butala:
The live events that Jill and I did-

Jill K DeWit:
That used to be the place. That was the only place.

Steven Jack Butala:
People sat next to each other and ended up being lifelong business partners.

Jill K DeWit:
Exactly. So it is great. Everybody says it’s so nice. Even when on Thursday calls, you need to be around people who are in this with you. They get it. So, it’s hard to talk at the kitchen table with your wife about what you’re doing here. She’s probably not going to understand. And that’s okay.

Steven Jack Butala:
Yeah.

Jill K DeWit:
So that’s why you have this.

Steven Jack Butala:
If you had a wife.

Jill K DeWit:
If I had a wife?

Steven Jack Butala:
Yeah. You criticize wives a lot.

Jill K DeWit:
Why?

Steven Jack Butala:
I think that’s cracked up because you can get away with it.

Jill K DeWit:
Oh.

Steven Jack Butala:
If I said anything like that, it would be over.

Jill K DeWit:
Oh. You know what’s really funny? I, for whatever reason have always, I don’t know. I’ve always had something going on in not … I’ve never worked in a salon. You know what I mean? I’ve never been in a business that was only female focused. I’ve always been in businesses that were more male focused and things like that. When I worked at the auto mechanic, all this stuff that I did way back when, it’s very interesting. I don’t know why that is. Maybe I just identify better. Because you know what? I cannot, oh this here. I’ll end it on this. We just had a discussion the other day about this. I cannot handle women that whine and have a high pitch voice and it’s baby talk.

Steven Jack Butala:
Yeah.

Jill K DeWit:
Nope. Sorry. I can’t handle it. So if you men think you can’t handle those gals on one date, I couldn’t handle them on one date too.

Steven Jack Butala:
So here’s what I think about that.

Jill K DeWit:
I wouldn’t do it.

Steven Jack Butala:
I think that not just women, but people-

Jill K DeWit:
Sheesh.

Steven Jack Butala:
Have some mild success, young, early in their life in whatever they’re doing, like attracting other people.

Jill K DeWit:
Sure.

Steven Jack Butala:
Or they just get rewarded for some pretty negative behavior.

Jill K DeWit:
Yeah.

Steven Jack Butala:
What ends up being negative behavior. And then it becomes a habit and then everybody turns 50 and they’re still doing it and it’s not-

Jill K DeWit:
It’s old.

Steven Jack Butala:
It’s not working anymore.

Jill K DeWit:
They act stupid. I’ll never forget. I have this one friend of a friend where she learned it was better to act stupid because men seem to like to take care of her and nevermind, she’s like a what’s it called? What’s when you go into surgery, she’s an anesthesiologist.

Steven Jack Butala:
She’s an anesthesiologist?

Jill K DeWit:
I’m serious. I’m not kidding. You’d never know it. Exactly.

Steven Jack Butala:
She’s a ditzy anesthesiologist?

Jill K DeWit:
Yes. If you talk to her-

Steven Jack Butala:
Oh my gosh, Jill.

Jill K DeWit:
You would never know.

Steven Jack Butala:
That’s some classic stuff.

Jill K DeWit:
And I’ve traveled in groups with her and then I’m like, “Holy cow.” When I really found out how smart she is, but you wouldn’t know it. She acts like the ditziest thing and like, “Oh, over here. Oh, thank you so much.” Because she always got attention from men. She didn’t get as much attention coming off smart. She got attention coming off stupid. So I’m like, that’s dumb. But anyway.

Steven Jack Butala:
Now I got to review my whole personal thing and see what I’m doing that’s left over from 1987.

Jill K DeWit:
Yep. What do I do?

Steven Jack Butala:
I don’t know. I don’t know. We’re so into it. We live with each other, so it’s probably a freaking disaster to the outside world.

Jill K DeWit:
Oh my God, I’m sure.

Steven Jack Butala:
We don’t even recognize it.

Jill K DeWit:
No, you’re right. I’m sure our friends are like, “Oh no, here they go again.”

Steven Jack Butala:
Here they go again.

Jill K DeWit:
Like right now.

Steven Jack Butala:
Right. You know what? It’s your fault that you listen and watch this show. Not mine.

Jill K DeWit:
That’s right. Exactly. Oh, and if you know what it is that we can’t clearly see, please put it in the comments.

But I don’t walk around acting ditzy and I don’t force everybody to do it. I really try to learn new music. Honestly, I do. I’m going to see Rufus du Sol in a couple of months. So there you go.

Steven Jack Butala:
Yeah, you’re right.

Jill K DeWit:
It’s not all Depeche Mode. I got this.

Steven Jack Butala:
All my cars are from the sixties and seventies.

Jill K DeWit:
You do that.

Steven Jack Butala:
People just laugh at me, I bet.

Jill K DeWit:
I do have the modern. I can’t go backwards like that. I understand. Happy you could join us today. I’m going to stop this right now.
